"I try to not think about it, but it pops into my head randomly and I can't make it go away. Sometimes I get reminded of it by a smell or a sound and it feels like I'm going through it all over again. I'm worried this will never end."
It can feel so heavy and isolating carrying trauma. Unfortunately, there is no getting over trauma, but rather through it. Therapy can support you in developing skills to manage/reduce the intensity of the distress you may feel, identify possible triggers, share you trauma narrative on your terms, identify underlying emotions, bring new meaning to your experience, separate your sense of identity from the experience, and ultimately experience reduction or complete cessation of trauma related symptoms.
